Blessed with a sunny weather last Saturday, we pushed through to our ocular/destination – Burot beach in Calatagan, Batangas. A 4-5 hr travel by bus. We left around 0500H from Pasay Rotonda, and arrived at 0945H at Calatagan’s Public Market. We bought a few rations first for lunch. There are lots of tricycles (you may negotiate with trike drivers for the rate!) around, that will take you to Burot. We arrived 15 minutes after.

TIP: Contact first Mang Ramon (09156028907). He is the caretaker, seek advisement if you can visit Burot either on a day trip or overnight. The beach is said to be privately owned by SMDC, and open to the  public until further notice.

For an overnight stay, you may bring your own tent or rent from them (P300 good for 2-3 pax) since there are no permanent accommodation in the beach.

TIP: Hire the tricycle driver that drop you off, to pick you up. It’s a long way to reach the house, on which the tricycles have a terminal.

Due to prevailing Habagat winds, lots of seaweeds can be seen on the shoreline. However, it is ideal to go to Burot during the Summer season, were no seaweed can be seen along the coast (I hope by then it’s still open to the public).

A boatman approached (while were taking a dip at the beach) and offered to accompany us to Isla Puting Buhangin for P40 per person. I was hesitant (first) due to our experience at La Union (which I got dismayed). I informed the boatman to ask the other only couple visiting at the beach, and if they obliged, we might join too.

Luckily, they agreed and we had 2 new friends, She and Rondee. They are also budget friendly travelers (as we are!).  It was high tide then, and the body of water was only up to our waistline. It was clean and clear!

How to get to Burot beach:

For public transportation, you may travel by air-con bus or van. Bus travel may take 4-5 hrs, and the terminal can be found at the back of Mcdonalds/Sogo, at the MRT Taft station. Van travel may take 3-4 hrs, and the terminal is located at the back of Metropoint Mall and Kabayan Hotel at Pasay.

TIP: The current rates (as of 2012) for BSC liner – P193.00, Celyrosa – P160.00 and van P180.00. Last bus trip from Calatagan Public Terminal is at 1700H (There is also a van terminal to Pasay).

The same tricycle driver picked us up around 1500H, and drop us off at the public market. Our last stop for the night… YABU: The House of Katsu in SM Megamall O_o
