As we search for a place to spend the night in Vigan, we end up staying at Grandpa’s Inn.  The accommodation is air-conditioned, with cable TV, hot and cold shower, free WIFI and complimentary breakfast*

Grandpa’s Inn is located a few blocks away from Calle Crisologo and a 5 minute walk to Plaza Burgos  (where Vigan Empanadaan is located, click here) and St. Paul Cathedral. Grandpa’s Inn also provides massage service (upon request) and provides group tours, big or small. You can also purchase pasalubong here such as Vigan longganisa or Bagnet (but I would recommend that you buy it at the Market** instead).

** The market can be reached by foot (20 min walk away) or trike (as of 2012, P10 per passenger).

Kusina Felicitas

We chose Pares, Itlog ken Kinirog and Longganisa, Itlog ken Kinirog (the local version of paresilog and longsilog)

*served at Kusina Felicitas from 630AM to 1030AM only

Where is the best place to have okoy and empanada?

Answer: go up North! 0_o

Vigan Empanadaan

At the heart  of Vigan City (between St. Paul Cathedral and Calle Crisologo), a location where locals and visitors can taste Vigan’s famous empanada.

Our dinner consists of 3 special empanada(s) and an order of okoy! The empanada is delicious (so was the Vigan longganisa filling!). The okoy was good; the flavor of the shrimps was not overpowering and surprisingly well balanced.

As of 2012, a regular empanada is P30, a special empanada (with egg) is P35 and their special okoy is P30.

How to get there

By Bus: Daily trips by Partas, Viron and Dominion that will take 8-10 hrs. Other buses like Farinas, Florida, Maria de leon, Autobus and RCJ travel to Laoag City passing through Ilocos Sur. Take a tricycle or a jeep upon arrival at Vigan.

By Plane: Regular flight via PAL, Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines, and travel 2-2 1/2 hrs from Laoag City to Vigan City by bus. I suggest riding an air-conditioned bus such as Partas which has comfortable seats and faster than non air-con buses, that will occasionally stop to pick up passengers and may take longer.
